Alter Academy (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application (the “App”) and our associated services.
By accessing or using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access the application.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information that identifies, relates to, describes, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with you (“Personal Data”).
A. Information You Provide to Us
- Account Information: When you log in using your Alter Academy Pro subscription, we collect your name, email address, and membership tier status from our WordPress servers.
- User-Generated Content: If you participate in our Community Chat, we collect the text messages, photos, and videos you choose to upload.
- CRM & Job Data: If you use the Job Dashboard, you may enter third-party customer information (such as customer names, phone numbers, addresses, vehicle registration numbers, and financial data). You retain ownership of this data; we simply store it securely to provide the CRM functionality to you.
B. Information Collected Automatically
- Device & Usage Data: We collect your device’s Push Notification Token (via Expo) to send you alerts about chat messages or app updates.
- Course Progress: We track which videos and courses you have completed to accurately display your learning progress across devices.
C. Device Permissions With your explicit permission, the App may access:
- Photo Library & Camera: To allow you to upload images and videos of tools, keys, and vehicles directly into the Community Chat. You can enable or disable this access at any time through your device settings.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To Provide the Service: To authenticate your Pro subscription, deliver course content, and synchronize your Job Dashboard across devices.
- To Facilitate Communication: To operate the Community Chat, send push notifications, and allow peer-to-peer networking.
- To Moderate Content: To enforce our Community Rules, process user reports, and block or ban abusive users from the chat ecosystem.
- To Improve the App: To understand how users interact with our features and fix technical bugs.
3. Third-Party Services
We use trusted third-party service providers to operate the App. These providers only have access to your data to perform specific tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.
- Google Firebase: We use Firebase Firestore and Firebase Storage to securely store user profiles, CRM Job Data, and Community Chat messages/media.
- Expo / EAS: We use Expo to handle the delivery of Push Notifications to your device.
- WordPress: Our app authenticates your login credentials and membership tier through our secure Alter Academy website infrastructure.
4. Data Retention and Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical security measures (including industry-standard encryption) to help protect your personal information.
- Job Data: Cached locally on your device for offline use and synced securely to Firebase.
- Chat Data: Stored continuously to maintain chat history, unless deleted by the user or an administrator.
- While we take reasonable steps to secure your personal information, please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable.
5. Your Rights & Account Deletion
Depending on your location (such as under UK GDPR), you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data.
How to Delete Your Account: Apple guidelines require us to provide a simple way to delete your data. You can request complete account deletion directly within the App:
- Open the App and navigate to the Menu tab.
- Scroll to the “Account & Privacy” section.
- Tap “Delete Account” and confirm the prompt.
- Note: This will flag your account for complete deletion from our Firebase database, including your CRM jobs, chat history, and profile data, within 30 days. This action cannot be undone.

6. User-Generated Content and Moderation
Our Community Chat is strictly moderated. We have a zero-tolerance policy for objectionable content, abusive users, or the sharing of illegal software/data.
- You can block other users or report specific messages directly within the App.
- Administrators reserve the right to review reported messages and permanently ban any user who violates our Terms of Service, without a refund.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy, and in some cases, we may provide an in-app notification.
